Tutoring

While Federal Law and UW System policy do not mandate that tutoring be provided for students with disabilities, tutorial assistance for students with disabilities at UW-Eau Claire is made possible by special support monies with no direct charge to individual students. In order to request this service, students must provide the Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) Office with documentation of his/her disability and a disability related need for tutorial assistance. Referrals to the Academic Skills Center, where tutoring is done, are made on a case-by-case basis following review of the documentation provided.

Procedures for obtaining tutorial assistance:

1. As soon as the student has registered for a course and recognizes the need for tutorial assistance, s/he must schedule an appointment in the SSD Office and meet with either Tricia Tollefson, Academic Coordinator, or Kathleen Hurley, Director.
   
   
2. Following discussion of specific needs, the appropriateness of the request will be determined and, if appropriate, a "Referral to Academic Skills Center" will be completed. (Students may also be asked to complete an "Academic Skills Center Intake Form" at this time.)
   
   
3. The student must then take the completed Referral and Intake Forms to the Academic Skills Center and schedule an appointment to meet with Patti See, the Specialized Tutoring Coordinator. The student will meet with the Tutoring Coordinator to clarify specific tutoring needs and schedule tutoring times.
