What nonprofit did you work with?

Fall Creek Historical Society

What did you do for your service-learning?

The goal of the Fall Creek Historical Society is to collect relics of history from the Chippewa Valley area, to save, preserve, and document for the future generations to be able to enjoy the beauty of the past. They collect anything from past newspapers to school yearbooks, old mason jars and much more. I helped specifically with organizing these relics onto Excel spreadsheets to keep them orderly and organized.

What motivated you to choose this project?

I was drawn to the Fall Creek Historical Society booth during the Community Action Fair. Carol and Opal, the coordinators, were so friendly and welcoming. I also chose this project because I think it is very important to preserve, save and document the past for our future generations.

Is your service-learning relevant to your field of study?

As a political science major this isn't especially relative to my field of study, but through this whole experience I have gained knowledge about the historical past of Eau Claire, as well as strengthened my Excel skills.

How did you impact your community?

I have impacted my community through the preservation of the past. The goal of Fall Creek Historical Society is very important to the city of Eau Claire and this in itself will affect the community for many years to come.

Would you recommend this to other students?

Yes, I would. I also would recommend that students start looking for a project junior year at the latest, so they don't have to rush through it and not enjoy what they're doing.

Could you summarize the experience in one sentence?

It benefits everybody and I've learned a lot from the experience.

Excellence. Our Measure. Our Motto. Our Goal.
