Student Health Service is not open nights, weekends, or when University classes are not in session. No Student Health Service personnel are "on call."

"When should I go to the emergency room?"

When you have severe symptoms, including extreme pain, that you believe a lack of immediate medical attention will likely result in serious damage to your health, the health of an unborn child, or serious damage to bodily functions, body parts and/or organs. Some examples of medical emergencies are:

  • Heart attack
  • Stroke
  • Alcohol or drug overdose
  • Acute allergic reactions
  • Acute appendicitis
  • Attempted suicide
  • Acute asthmatic attacks
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Suffocation
  • Convulsions or epileptic seizures
  • Acute hemorrhage (excessive bleeding)
