Student Senate

Student Senate members are elected every spring and appointed to vacant positions throughout the year. Student Senate represents student interests by recommending proposals to university administration, UW System Administration, Eau Claire City Council, state government and federal government.

Student Senate also allocates approximately $2.5 million in Student Segregated fees each year to organized activities on campus including legal services, the Spectator, Athletics, Student Health Service and many others. Beyond allocating the Segregated Fees budget, and representing students in government, Student Senate plans annual events such as House Day, Don't Dump it Donate it, Take Back the Night and countless others.

Student Senate meetings are open to the public and are held Mondays at 6:00 p.m. in the Tamarack Room in Davies Center. At the beginning of every meeting, there is an open forum where anyone can address Student Senate with any issues he/she feels needs to be discussed.

Students can serve on any of the nine commissions listed below or countless committees. All are open to students in good academic standing who would like to make a difference at UW-Eau Claire regardless of whether or not you are a student senator.

  • Academic Affairs Commission
  • Finance Commission
  • Information Technology Commission
  • Intergovernmental Affairs Commission
  • Organizations Commission
  • Public Relations Commission
  • Student Life & Diversity Commission
  • Student Services Commission
  • University Activities Commission

Legal Services

An attorney is available to help UW-Eau Claire students. This program is sponsored by the Student Services Commission of the Student Senate through the Tenant Affairs Chairperson. Mr. Harry Hertel is the attorney who sees students on Tuesdays from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Appointments must be made in person at the Student Senate Office (Davies Center 132) beforehand. The ID is checked and a $10.00 fee is charged for first time appointments and a $5.00 fee is charged for subsequent appointments concerning the same subject matter.
