Counseling Services is a developmentally oriented college counseling department committed to providing services that foster the personal and educational growth of UW-Eau Claire students. We focus on providing confidential counseling services to students confronting personal, developmental, or psychological issues that can interfere with their educational progress. Common developmental issues, include such concerns as setting goals, building time management skills, increasing self-esteem and assertiveness, and working on relationship issues. Psychological services are provided through short-term individual and group counseling, testing and developmental outreach workshops. We also offer support to students experiencing crises involving traumatic events (e.g., suicidal gestures, sexual assault) or long-term clinical issues (e.g., eating disorders, alcoholism, or depression). In addition to support in time of crisis, we offer assessment and referral to community treatment agencies for students facing long term mental health issues. Counseling Services also houses the campus Employee Assistance Program which offers counseling and consulting services to faculty and staff and to departmental units of the university.

Counseling also provides a comprehensive self-help website at http://www.uwec.edu/counsel/pubs.htm that has a broad range of self-help resources.

Among the typical services provided are:

• psychological testing

• classroom presentations

• self-help multi-media resource library
