Change of Major/Minor Procedures

How to change to major or minor in the Foreign Languages Department:

If you change to a new major...

Majors include:

  • French
  • German
  • Spanish
  • Latin American Studies

1. Study the Department of Foreign Languages major program options in the university catalogue and on our website (www.uwec.edu/FLang/).

2. Obtain your "What-If" Degree Audit for the new major.

3. Draft a tentative course plan for your new major.

4. Come to the main office of the Department of Foreign Languages (HHH 378) and make an appointment to meet with the department chair.

5. Meet with the department chair. (You must have your What-If degree audit and your tentative course plan with you!)

6. After your meeting with the chair, the program assistant in our department’s main office will enter your major change online and assign you an appropriate advisor from our department.

Please note: An important consideration for new foreign language majors will be how much prior training they have had in the language of their choice.


If you change to a new minor …

Minors include:

  • Ancient Studies
  • French
  • German
  • Japanese
  • Spanish
  • Latin American Studies
  • Middle East Studies
  • Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)

1. Study the Department of Foreign Languages minor program options in the university catalogue and on our website (http://www.uwec.edu/flang/).

2. Come to the main office of the Department of Foreign Languages (HHH 378). The program assistant will provide you with advising sheets, enter your new minor online, and assign you an appropriate advisor.

3. Make an appointment with your new advisor to discuss your course plan.

Please note: An important consideration for new foreign language minors will be how much prior training they have had in the language of their choice.
