Cancellation is a word the University uses to refer specifically to "deleting" a registration prior to the beginning of a class. To cancel your registration, and receive a full refund, you must notify Registration Services (Schofield 128) IN WRITING, PRIOR to the start of classes.
Withdrawal refers either to--withdrawing from (i.e., dropping) a class(es) that has already begun or--leaving the University, i.e., withdrawing from ALL classes:
A student who wishes to withdraw from all classes must begin the official withdrawal procedure by reporting to the office of the Dean of the college or School in which s/he is enrolled. In cases of illness or other emergency, when the student is unable to initiate withdrawal procedures, an Associate Dean of Students in the Office of Student Development and Diversity will initiate and process withdrawal from the University.
If a student withdraws from the University during the first two weeks of classes, no record of specific course enrollment will be made. If a student withdraws from the University from the third through tenth weeks, the grade of W will be recorded for each course. The calendar date of the deadline for withdrawal from courses is published each semester in the Class Schedule.
If a student withdraws from the University after the deadline for withdrawing from courses, the grade of F will be recorded for each course remaining unfinished, except in extenuating circumstances as determined by the Dean of the College or School in which the student is enrolled.
An undergraduate student who withdraws and is not subsequently subject to suspension may return for the next regular academic semester without making formal application for readmission to the University.
Under certain conditions, including family needs, a UWEC student may apply for an official leave of absence for one semester (maximum of two semesters), in order to maintain contact with the University while not enrolled as a student.
