Key of Codes for Equivalency Lists

University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire

Disclaimer

You may print these reports to keep as a record of how your courses will transfer.  The transfer course equivalencies listed are guaranteed for courses you take this or next semester and, when you choose to transfer, will “count” as indicated.  The equivalencies listed are accurate, but may satisfy different degree requirements depending upon your specific major or program.  In addition, course revisions or changes in requirements may cause equivalencies to change.  Therefore, it is your responsibility to (1) discuss specific circumstances with an advisor, and (2) retain printed copies of these dated reports.

Key of Codes used on the Equivalency Lists

CREDIT TYPE DEFINITIONS:

If a course has no specific UWEC equivalent, the course may be assigned elective credit, may be denied credit, or may require evaluation by the department chair. The following are codes which may be used to indicate this and their explanations.

*NSE Note: Students on the National Student Exchange program do not file a Prior Approval form.  An advising agreement completed prior to departure ensures that all the course work taken at the host institution will transfer back to UW-Eau Claire.

ELEC No equivalent course at UWEC. Credit will be applied to the total credits to graduate.  If ELEC is listed with a department or subject name, the credit may be applied to the major or minor (unless otherwise restricted).  ELEC courses may be applied to the General requirement with the approval of the Dean of the School from which you intend to graduate.
GE If a GE category is listed in the UWEC title, it will not be necessary to clear through the Dean before using for a GE category.
LDU Lower Division Undergraduate credit (freshman, sophomore level course work) will be granted.
UDU Upper Division Undergraduate credit (junior, senior level course work) will be granted.
LDN Lower Division, No Credit
CONSULT
(CONSLT)
You will definitely receive credit for this course, but you need to consult with the appropriate department chair (of the dept. to which such a course would logically belong) to receive an equivalency.  Take your Prior Approval* form and a course description to the chair for evaluation.  Once an equivalency has been assigned, return the Prior Approval* form to the Registrar’s office for your file.
DEFER You will not receive credit for this course unless you have the approval of the appropriate department chair (of the department to which such a course would logically belong).  There is a possibility you will not be able to receive credit.  Take your Prior Approval* form and a course description to the chair for approval and evaluation.  If an equivalency is assigned, return the Prior Approval* form to the Registrar’s Office for your permanent file.
NO No credit given. Credit not accepted at UW-Eau Claire
MANUAL Submit a Prior Approval* form.
