The goals
of the course are to convey the basic methods and principles of physics,
and provide part of a liberal arts education. This course relates to several of
the eleven goals of the UW-EC Baccalaureate Degree, especially to developing
“an ability to inquire, think, and analyze”, “an understanding
of numerical data”, and “an understanding of science and
scientific methods”, and enhancing your ability to “write,
read, speak, and listen.”
Textbook: College Physics - A Strategic Approach , by Knight, Jones, and Field. This text was written to carefully introduce and explain the concepts. It does an excellent job of mentioning all the details that other books (and instructors) tend to assume that you already know. You'll be required to read the chapters that we cover, and you'll have reading assignments due Mondays and Thursdays. Besides the "rental" textbook, you need to buy a "iclicker" and the lab manual. (You can use the same iclicker for different classes).
