Junior: The student must have a minimum cumulative grade point of 3.0 in all course work and a 3.5 in mathematics courses. Be a junior who will have completed at least 75 and less than 96 semester credits at the end of the fall semester. Have completed at least one 300-level math course by the end of the fall semester. Senior: The student must be Math major or a Physics-Mathematics comprehensive major. Have an overall GPA of 3.5 or greater. Have a math GPA of 3.5 or greater. Have completed 90 or more credit hours by the end of the fall semester, including at least 27 of the mathematics credits that count toward the major. Math GPA and overall GPA are considered in selection along with participation in math-related activities not restricted by financial considerations. In addition, priority will be given to those students who have participated in the EMACS program. The awards committee will rank nominees on the previous criteria. After the top three candidates are determined, the final selection if by vote of the Mathematics faculty.APPLICATION PROCEDURE: None APPLICATION DEADLINE: None SELECTION PROCEDURE:
All students meeting the above criteria will be considered by the Department of Mathematics. The awards committee will score all of the above criteria on a 0-10 scale and the scores of each committee member will be averaged for each student.NOTIFICATION:
Official notification will be sent to all nominees by the Department of Mathematics by March 1. The Chair will complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid office.SPECIAL NOTES:
The senior award recipient will receive a book and be recognized on an engraved plaque posted in the Mathematics Department.
