Signe Jorgenson s article resulted from research done in a class on the New Testament. Rejecting stereo
typical views of gays and lesbians as "sinful," she set out to discover what the New Testament actually
said about homosexuality. She discovered that, contrary to popular beliefs, the New Testament does not
condemn loving, reciprocal, committed gay and lesbian relationships. Instead, the practices censured
are only those which are unequal and exploitive. Taking each relevant verse in its original context, she
carefully explores the meaning of each text that refers to the topic. In constructing her argument, she
takes seriously the views of her opponents and systematically destroys their arguments one by one with
impeccable scholarship.
