Orientation for Freshmen

Preparing for Orientation

During Phase I Orientation, you will work with an adviser to select your courses for fall semester. This selection should be based on your interest and goals. Doing a little advanced preparation will help make the process seem less overwhelming.

Reminder:

Don't forget ... Take the Quiz and register for some great prizes.

If you would like to keep track of the courses that interest you as you explore this site, you can print out a worksheet and bring it with you to Orientation.

REMEMBER: All courses will not be open when you come to Orientation. Rather than choosing specific courses for fall semester, think in terms of courses you would like to take during your first year or two at the university.

Step 1: Explore the Components of a Degree to better understand how the variety of courses and opportunities offered at UW-Eau Claire blend together to form a liberal-arts based degree.

Step 2: Explore the 1st Year Requirements for All Majors. Remember: "typical schedules" presented are only meant to give you ideas. It is best to think in terms of the courses suggested for the entire year, since many courses can be taken either first or second semester.

Step 3: Explore the Freshman Year Experience courses - special sections of courses designed just for freshmen.

Step 4: Explore the courses available for freshmen. While not all of these courses will be available when you come to Orientation, the list will give you ideas about what types of courses you can take your freshman year.

Step 5: Take the Quiz and register for prizes. -- $20 cash from U.S. Bank and a $20 gift card for Action City!
