This scholarship is open to students with Special Education majors who some day will teach persons who have mental handicaps and are disadvantaged. The financial need of the applicant is to be a consideration for selection of the scholarship recipient, as well as scholastic ability. Applicants should be full-time students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Preference to state applicants may also be considered, particularly those who plan to teach in Wisconsin after graduation. Awards are renewable for recipients, upon a recommendation of the Scholarship Committee.APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Qualifying students will receive an email in December with scholarship application information. Also, visit the webpage www.uwec.edu/coehs/forms/index.htm and go to Teacher Education Scholarships. Complete the form and submit it to the Education Scholarship Committee. Ask at least one member of the Teacher Education Program who is familiar with your achievements at the University to submit a letter of recommendation to the Scholarship Committee.APPLICATION DEADLINE:

The Education and Human Sciences Scholarship Committee will review applications and select the award recipient by consensus.SELECTION DEADLINE: On or about April 1.
By the Education Associate Dean by letter. The Associate Dean will complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid office for each recipient.SPECIAL NOTES:
The recipient should send a thank-you letter to Phyllis Wall and Marnee Grefe, granddaughters of Daisy Longren, in care of the UW-EC Foundation office, S-214.
