AMOUNT: One Award at $1,500AVAILABLE: AvailableELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: This scholarship will be awarded to a UW-Eau Claire student demonstrating a great passion for and planning on a career working with persons with cognitive and developmental disabilities. Financial need and academic success will also be considered but are not the primary criteria. Students majoring in special education, communication disorders and/or social work will be considered. Recipient must have volunteer experiences with groups such as Special Olympics or have worked in group homes. Recipient should be a junior or senior at the time the scholarship is received, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75. This scholarship is meant to recognize someone who is hard working in their studies and shows a genuine interest in and passion for a career of service.APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Due to the multidisciplinary feature of this scholarship, application information will be available from the departments of Special Education, Social Work, or Communication Sciences and Disorders on a rotating basis. Interested students can contact one of those offices for more information.APPLICATION DEADLINE: The application deadline will be communicated by the department awarding the scholarship.SELECTION PROCEDURE: A scholarship committee from the College of Education and Human Sciences will review applications and select the recipient.SELECTION DEADLINE: The selection deadline will be determined by the department awarding the scholarship.NOTIFICATION: The recipient will be notified by the department awarding the scholarship. The chair or selection committee will submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid Office.SPECIAL NOTES: The Riverfront Scholarship was established in 2010 by Jay and Dawn Jaehnke who live in Onalaska, WI. The university is proud to call Jay, his mother Lucreta, his son Adam, and his sister Karen, Blugolds. As graduates of UW-Eau Claire, they benefitted from the outstanding education they each received and the opportunities afforded them after graduation. Jay had a successful career as a partner with WIPFLI and now is the Vice President of Investments at Stifel Nicolaus & Co in LaCrosse, WI. Jay has provided excellent service as a member of the board of Riverfront, which provides services for the cognitively and developmentally disabled. The recipient is asked to write a thank you letter to Jay and Dawn Jaehnke and forward it to the UW-Eau Claire Foundation Office, S-214. |
