Fuerstenberg, Jan Education Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
This scholarship is intended to be awarded to an incoming teacher education major to provide support and encouragement in the initial phases of the teacher education program. Applicants must be accepted in the teacher education program at UW-Eau Claire. One scholarship shall be designated for an elementary education major and one for a secondary education major. Recipients must demonstrate financial need and be from the Chippewa Valley. Preference will be given to those students who demonstrate early their passion for teaching and their potential to be an effective and successful elementary or secondary classroom teacher.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Qualifying students will receive an email in December with scholarship application information. Also, visit the webpage www.uwec.edu/coehs/forms/index.htm and go to Teacher Education Scholarships. Complete the form and submit it to the Education Scholarship Committee. Ask at least one member of the Teacher Education Program who is familiar with your achievements at the University to submit a letter of recommendation to the Scholarship Committee.

Mid-February. Visit the webpage www.uwec.edu/coehs/forms/index.htm and go to Teacher Education Scholarships. Exact deadline will be in Scholarship Application Directions.
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Selection will be based on the above criteria.

On or about April 1st.
NOTIFICATION:
By letter. The dean will complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid office.
SPECIAL NOTES:
Jan Fuerstenberg is an educator with a long and distinguished career of teaching elementary school in Minnesota and Wisconsin. She impacted hundreds of children during her 36 year career, and retired from the Eau Claire Area School District in 2008. Jan was widely known as one of the most effective teachers in the ECASD. Her students developed lifelong learning skills that prepared them to be successful students and people. She often would say that she set high standards for her students and by the end of each year, every student in her class would meet or exceed those expectations. Her classes were defined by their organization, imagination, creativity and passion for learning. This scholarship commemorates Jan’s distinguished career and celebrates her passion for teaching. Recipients should submit a thank you letter to Jan and Roy Fuerstenberg, in care of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation Office, S-214.
