Spring and summer utility outages announced
The spring 2009 steam outage will be held from 6 p.m. May 16 through 4 p.m. May 26. The outage will result in the following: No potable hot water except in Chancellor's, Thomas and Murray halls, all hall directors' apartments, Zorn Arena, Brewer Hall, Human Sciences and Services, McIntyre Library, Nursing, Crest Wellness Center and Haas Fine Arts (isolated areas). The summer 2009 planned electrical outage is scheduled for 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 6, and will affect the entire campus.

These annually-occurring utility outages allow for preventive maintenance and repairs that prevent unplanned emergency outages due to breakdowns. For more information, contact Terry Classen at classetl@uwec.edu or 836-5278.

McIntyre Library and coffee cart to offer extended hours
McIntyre Library will be open 24 hours the week before and of finals again this semester. The library will be open:

    • Monday, May 4, from 7 a.m. to midnight Friday, May 8.
    • Saturday, May 9, from 7:30 a.m. to midnight.
    • Sunday, May 10, from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, May 15.

The library will be closed Saturday and Sunday, May 16-17.

The Library Grounds coffee cart located in the grand corridor of McIntyre Library also will extend its hours of operation during finals week as follows:

    • Sunday, May 10, from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m.
    • Monday, May 11, through Wednesday, May 13, from 7 a.m.to 1 a.m.
    • Thursday, May 14, from 7 a.m.to 3 p.m.

After Library Grounds closes, McIntyre Library and Sodexo will provide free coffee to students studying in the library from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. finals week, Sunday through Thursday, May 10-14. United Way seeks 'Taste of Eau Claire' volunteers
Volunteers are sought for the United Way's annual Taste of Eau Claire event to be held June 7 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Phoenix Park in downtown Eau Claire. More information about volunteering at the event is available online or by contacting Ann Polenz, Taste of Eau Claire volunteer coordinator, at apolenz@group-health.com or 715-852-2073.

'It's Your Benefit' newsletter available online
The Wisconsin Department of Employee Trust Funds newsletter, "It's Your Benefit," is available online. The newsletter is published in January, May and September.

Obsolete Desire2Learn records to be purged
The UW System began using the learning management system, Desire2Learn, in fall 2003. Since its deployment all D2L course content and student records have been retained. Last year the UW System formed a work group to develop a policy for digital instructional record retention. More information about the policy is available online.

A process now is in place to remove obsolete D2L course content and student contributions. D2L courses offered in any term prior to fall 2005 have been identified as candidates for removal. Desire2Learn courses for the following terms will be removed completely and permanently as of May 26, 2009:
fall 2003, winterim 2004, spring 2004, summer 2004, fall 2004, winterim 2005, spring 2005 and summer 2005.

Instructors are asked to review their D2L courses for the terms listed above for any course information they wish to retain.
