'Pennies for Peace' Fundraiser. The UW-Eau Claire branch of the collegiate chapter of the Wisconsin Association for Middle Level Education will host a "Pennies for Peace" fundraiser April 21-25. The organization's goal is for faculty, staff and students to donate one penny per pound of their total weight. Donations will be taken at Jazzman's, Market Place, University Bookstore, Hilltop Food Court, Hibbard Hall's a la carte line, Haas Fine Arts Center and Brewer Hall. More information.

Sexual Assault Activism Week. UW-Eau Claire will recognize Sexual Assault Activism week April 21-25 with events ranging from speakers to film showings. Today a panel discussion about sexual assault in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning communities will be held. McIntyre Library Exhibit. McIntyre Library and the department of geography and anthropology have collaborated to present an exhibit of photographs of archaeological sites provided by the University of Hartford Art School titled "Sanctuaries from Asia to the Americas." The photography exhibit, on display through the end of spring semester, celebrates the works of several University of Hartford students. The exhibit is housed on McIntyre Library's fourth and fifth floors.

Tornado Drill. Gov. Jim Doyle has proclaimed April 21-25 as Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week in Wisconsin. The governor has asked state agencies, including UW-Eau Claire, to conduct a mock tornado drill today. In Eau Claire County the drill will include a mock tornado watch at 1 p.m. upgraded to a mock tornado warning from 1:40 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Outdoor sirens, broadcast stations and weather radios will sound the warning. Ann Devroy Memorial Forum. Dana Priest, an investigative reporter who broke the Walter Reed Army Medical Center outpatient care scandal for The Washington Post in 2007, will be the featured speaker at the Ann Devroy Memorial Forum. She will present "Secrecy and the Media: A View From the Trenches." The Ann Devroy Memorial Forum and the Devroy Memorial Fund were established to recognize the outstanding journalistic work of 1970 UW-Eau Claire graduate Ann Devroy, who died of cancer in 1997 at the age of 49.
