The Onion staffers to speak at The Forum Feb. 8 Hanson has written for The Onion since 1990, longer than any other staffer. Loew was hired as a writer at The Onion in 1993 and was appointed graphics editor in 1995 when the publication transitioned from black and white to its present full-color format. The Singing Statesmen release seventh CD According to Schwartzhoff, much of the music included on the disc was performed by The Statesmen in 2005-06, when the ensemble celebrated its 40th anniversary, and recorded in 2006-07. The exception is the "Testament of Freedom," which was performed by the 1992-93 ensemble. Piano accompaniment for this disc was provided by Heather Wunsch Tank, a 1994 graduate of UW-Eau Claire; junior Meghan Quinn, Shoreview, Minn.; and senior James Hahn, Platteville. An endowed scholarship for Beaver Dam High School graduates who plan to attend UW-Eau Claire has been established by the spouse of a UW-Eau Claire alumnus and former assistant director of the university's Career Services Office. Dr. Sharon Ehrmeyer, professor of pathology and laboratory medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, wanted to honor her husband, Jerry Ehrmeyer, who graduated from UW-Eau Claire in 1960 with a bachelor's degree in sociology and in 1962 with a bachelor's degree in social science. Jerry Ehrmeyer had a long and distinguished career at UW-Eau Claire. From 1971-78 Ehrmeyer served as an assistant professor of psychology; he then was assistant director of the Career Services Office from 1978 until his retirement in 1996. He died in December 2005. White male privilege to be Feb. 8 panel topic The purpose of the discussion is to establish a dialogue about what white male privilege is, how we know it exists, and why it is important to recognize. Three panelists - English professor Dr. Martin Wood and students Aaron Brewster and Phil Kaveny - will share their own perspectives as white males and explain how they believe this privilege affects their lives. Workshop aims to help students become leaders The seminar will be held from 1-6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, in Room 162 of the McPhee Physical Education Center. Community and campus experts in a variety of fields will lead sessions on topics such as leadership skills, hazing, sexual assault and harassment, alcohol use and abuse, drug abuse, and personal wellness.
