Harry Jol Receives Erskine Fellowship
To Teach in New Zealand

MAILED: Nov. 1, 2002

EAU CLAIRE  Dr. Harry Jol, associate professor of geography and anthropology, has been awarded the Visiting Erskine Fellowship at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand.
As a Visiting Erskine Fellow, Jol will spend six months with the department of geological sciences. He will conduct ground penetrating radar research at various sites around the country including coastal and archaeological (Maori) sites. He will attend several field conferences, and he will write papers and give lectures within the department and to the local community.
“The fellowship has provided a great opportunity to visit another university half way around the world from us here in Eau Claire.” Jol said. “I am looking forward to incorporating my experiences into lectures and research when I return to UW-Eau Claire.”
Each year, about 70 distinguished, international academic visitors who already are advanced in the learning of any subject taught in the areas of commerce, engineering or science are invited to the University of Canterbury as part of the fellowship program.
Scholars receiving the fellowships must be nominated, and only those scholars who are distinguished in their academic fields are approved.
