EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Monday, Nov. 4. All events are free and open to the public.Wednesday, Nov. 6:
- The Percussion Ensemble will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The ensemble will begin the program with “Butai No Tameno Ongaku,” by Angel Luis Ferrando-Morales, an award-winning piece for six multi-percussionists who play an assortment of instruments, including western ones such as the xylphone, marimba and chimes, and Japanese varieties such as the chappa, binzasara and temple bell. The composer also utilizes vocalizations, foot stomping and improvised choreographic movements in the style of Kabuki Theatre. The Percussion Ensemble’s performance will also include “Drum Song,” by Carl-Axel Hall, “Samba,” by Ney Rosauro, and “Quartet for Paper Bags,” by Larry Spivack. The Percussion Ensemble is comprised of seniors Eric Becker, Hartford; Timothy Doleysh, Appleton; Matthew Edlund, Sun Prairie; Daniel Marrs, Andover, Minn.; Zachary May, Janesville; junior Sarah Belanger, Athens; sophomores Margaret Bailey, Edwardsville, Ill.; Nathan Burdick, Princeton, Minn.; Justin Tollefson, Mankato, Minn.; and freshmen Chad Federwitz, Marshfield; Melissa Sommers, Suamico; and Michael Van Hemert, Whitehall.
Sunday, Nov. 10:
- The Wisconsin Woodwind Quintet will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The Quintet is comprised of Dr. Tim Lane, associate professor of music, on flute; Ivar Lunde Jr., professor of music, on oboe; Dr. Richard Fletcher, professor of music, on clarinet; Dr. Kristine Fletcher, senior lecturer, on bassoon; and Andrew Parks, associate lecturer, on horn. The performance will include Concerto No. 25 in G minor for flute, oboe and bassoon by Antonio Vivaldi; Une Petite Suite pour Cinq, Op. 23, by Lunde; Trio No. 1 (London) for flute, oboe and bassoon by F.J. Haydn; and “Le Tombeau de Couperin,” written by Maurice Ravel and transcribed by Mason Jones.
