MAILED: April 5, 2002
EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Office of Continuing Education will be offering a short-course in glacial geology, May 17-18.
"Glacial Geology of Chippewa County" includes classroom lecture and discussion 1:30-5 p.m. Friday, May 17, and a field trip 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 18. This short-course, a repeat of the course held in October 2001, is designed to provide professionals with practical and applied knowledge about Chippewa County's glacial stratigraphy and history.
Topics to be covered include important aspects of the glacial stratigraphy and history of Chippewa County and Western Wisconsin, how glacial depositional processes create glacial landforms and deposit the sediment contained in those landforms, how glacial depositional processes influence vertical and horizontal hydraulic conductivity values and sediment strength, and how to interpret soil borings of modern and ancient glacial sediments.
UW-Eau Claire, in cooperation with UW-Extension, will award 1.2 (12 hours) Continuing Education Units for full participation in this course. The fee for this short-course is $205, which includes the cost of instruction, guidebook, field trip transportation and CEUs. The deadline for registration is May 3.
