EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Student Senate will host activities for its first annual Government Day from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, in Davies Center.
The event will offer students an opportunity to interact directly with their elected government officials at the city, state and federal level. Roundtables, interactive programs and panels throughout the day are tailored to the theme "Building Future Leaders: Campus, Community, Cooperation." The day will end with a keynote address by Lt. Gov. Margaret Farrow at 7:30 p.m.
Following is a schedule of the day's activities:
9-10 a.m. - State and Federal Legislator Panel: "Fighting Terrorism Abroad and Rising Tuition at Home" Presenters: State Sens. Dave Zien and Rodney Moen; State Reps. Rob Kreibich and Larry Balow; and Mark Aumann, speaking on behalf of Rep. Ron Kind (Presidents Room)
10-10:30 a.m. - Press Conference (The Cabin)
11-noon - Women in Politics: "Abundant Opportunities" Presenter: Kathryn McKenzie, Douglas County (Presidents Room)
12:30-1:30 p.m. - United Council: Lobbying 101 "Hands-On Workshop" Presenters: Craig Trost and Max V. Camp, United Council (Potawatomi Room)
2-3 p.m. - City Council Roundtable: "It's a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood" Presenters: City Council members Howard White, Dennis Jensen, Terri Stanley, Jane Tappen and Lynne Young (Presidents Room)
3-4 p.m. - Town and Gown Coalition: "Students as Neighbors" Presenters: Representatives from UW-Eau Claire, the Eau Claire City Council and several Eau Claire neighborhood associations (Potawatomi Room)
3-4 p.m. - United Council: How Can We Help Your Organization? "Interactive Workshop" Presenters: Camp and Trost, United Council (Presidents Room)
7:30-8:30 p.m. - Keynote Speaker: Lt. Gov. Margaret Farrow "Building Future Leaders: The State's Commitment to Excellence" (Menominee Room)
