And Communications Professionals Win Seven Awards

 MAILED:  Dec. 22, 2004

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Foundation, alumni relations and communications staff members received seven awards at the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District V conference, held Dec. 12-14 in Chicago. The seven awards were the most won by any college or university, public or private, in Wisconsin.

CASE, headquartered in Washington, D.C., is the professional organization for advancement professionals at all levels who work in alumni relations, communications and development. CASE District V includes member institutions in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.

"These awards represent the best work done by foundation, alumni and communications professionals at institutions in a six-state region — winning so many awards across a broad spectrum of categories is a testament to the talent and dedication of our advancement team," said UW-Eau Claire Chancellor Donald Mash.

In the Capital/Comprehensive Campaign category, the UW-Eau Claire Foundation staff won a Gold Award for the Foundation's "Fulfilling the Promise of Excellence" fund-raising campaign.

Foundation staff also received a Gold Award in the Fundraising Best Practices/Individual Projects category for the matching donor challenge grant program to increase donations to the Foundation's annual telefund. In the same category, Foundation staff won a Silver Award for their collaborative efforts with the community to raise funds for the Carson Park artificial turf project.

Julie Poquette, editor in the UW-Eau Claire News Bureau, and Mindy Merryfield, artist in the university's Publications office, received a Gold Award in the Electronic Newsletter category for the e-View, a monthly electronic newsletter sent to alumni and friends of UW-Eau Claire. Liz Wolf Green, editor in the News Bureau, Diane Walkoff, communications specialist in the News Bureau, and Sheila Pederson, senior artist in the Publications office, won a Bronze Award in the Electronic Newsletter category for the University Bulletin, a weekly electronic newsletter for UW-Eau Claire faculty and staff.

John Bachmeier, director of alumni relations, received a Silver Award for his role in helping organize UW System Spirit Day and UW Day at Miller Park — events promoting the contributions made by UW System alumni to the state of Wisconsin.

In the Communications and Marketing Best Practices/Individual Projects category, Ansel Brooks, artist in the Publications office, and Rick Mickelson, TLTDC photography and graphics coordinator, received a Bronze Award for the "Experience the Eau Claire Advantage" display created for the university's Admissions office.
