EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Wind Symphony, Symphony Band and Indianhead Honors Band will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
The concert is being held in conjunction with the Indianhead Honors Band and Wind Clinic being held all day Saturday in the Haas Fine Arts Center.
The Symphony Band, conducted by Dr. Phillip Ostrander, assistant professor of music and theatre arts, will perform Dana Wilson's "Shortcut Home," "October" by Eric Whitacre, and three sections of the "Suite Francaise" by Darius Milhaud.
The Wind Symphony, directed by Dr. R. Mark Heidel, assistant professor of music and theatre arts, will open their portion of the concert with "Country Band March" by Charles Ives and continue with "O Magnum Mysterium by Morten Lauridsen; Concerto for Oboe in C major by Domenico Cimarosa, featuring soloist Dr. Christa Garvey, assistant professor of music and theater arts; and "His Honor" by Henry Fillmore.
The Indianhead Honors Band, also directed by Heidel, will open with "The Sinfonians" by Clifton Williams. The group also will perform "Fantasy on a Gaelic Hymnsong" by David Holsinger; "Autumn Soliloquy" by James Barnes, again featuring Garvey on the oboe; selections from the opera "Porgy and Bess," by George Gershwin; and "God of Our Fathers" by Claude T. Smith.
