EAU CLAIRE — A fenced area on the Campus Mall at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will serve as "jail" for a number of students, staff and faculty volunteers who will be "arrested" as part of "Jail and Bail," an event to be held Oct. 20 in conjunction with National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week.
Those arrested by the University Police will need to persuade onlookers to help them raise "bail" to obtain their release — $10 for students and $20 for faculty and staff.
Proceeds from "Jail and Bail" will go to the Student Wellness Advocacy Team.
Other events planned to highlight Alcohol Awareness Week include a drunk driving simulator, OctSOBERfest and a car smash.
"Jail and Bail" is co-sponsored by Housing and Residence Life, Health Services, University Police, Activities and Programs, University Recreation and the Student Athletic Advisory Committee. The fencing was donated by Hayworth Fence of Eau Claire.
