Two UW-Eau Claire Professors
Announce Retirement

 MAILED:  Aug. 2, 2004

EAU CLAIRE - Two University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire professors recently announced their retirement. Both have been awarded emeritus status.

Dr. J. Kenneth Davidson Sr., professor of sociology and coordinator of family studies, will retire in August after 28 years at UW-Eau Claire. He taught courses on marriage and the family and on the sociology of human sexuality and has been involved in research into those areas throughout his entire career. In recent years, his research has centered on the sexual attitudes and behaviors of college men and women in a variety of settings. He published extensively in professional journals, co-authored the textbook "Marriage and Family," and co-edited several other books, including most recently a second edition of "Speaking of Sexuality: Interdisciplinary Readings," which will be published in 2005. Davidson has served as associate/consulting editor and reviewer for numerous professional publications such as the Journal of Marriage and the Family, The Journal of Sex Research, and Sociological Inquiry, and he was actively involved in many regional and national professional organizations. He also has been an invited presenter at many colleges and universities and in 1988 appeared on the CBS news show "This Morning." In 2003 he was the co-recipient of the Ernest G. Osborne Award for Excellence in Teaching Family Studies from the National Council on Family Relations. Davidson received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Georgia and his doctoral degree from the University of Florida.

Dr. Dennis Knutson, associate professor of accounting and finance, certified public accountant and certified management consultant, retired in May, after more than 30 years of service to UW-Eau Claire. Between teaching courses in financial accounting, cost/managerial accounting and a CPA review course at UW-Eau Claire and owning and operating a firm offering CPA review courses in Minneapolis and Milwaukee, he has helped hundreds of accountants pass their CPA exams since 1987. His area of research interest was accounting standards and he published numerous academic and professional journal articles and presented at many academic conferences on this and other topics. Knutson received several professional awards, including the 1990 3M Professor of Accountancy Award. He also served on the Accounting Advisory Board of the Chippewa Valley Technical College. Knutson earned his bachelor's degree from UW-Eau Claire, his master's degree from UW-Madison and his doctoral degree from the University of Kentucky.
