Rebecca Wurzer Named Director of
UW-Eau Claire Children's Center

 MAILED:  July 1, 2004

EAU CLAIRE - Rebecca Wurzer has been named director of the Children's Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Wurzer began her director duties July 1, said Dr. William Harms, associate vice chancellor of student services.

"Ms. Wurzer has 30 years of experience in the field of early childhood education, 28 of them at the Children's Center on campus," Harms said. "She's taught in every classroom and has done an excellent job as the interim director for the last three years."

As interim director, Wurzer has worked to create connections among the Children Center and various units and departments on campus, Harms said. As a result, UW-Eau Claire students spent nearly 3,000 hours last year observing, volunteering or conducting research at the center.

"Those kinds of interactions benefit both the university students and the children at the center," Harms said. "She's done a wonderful job of creating opportunities, which benefits everyone."

Wurzer also has strengthened the center's pre-school programs, and built partnerships with the JumpStart program and Western Dairyland's Head Start program, Harms said.

Located on campus, the Children's Center is accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs. It provides children of students, faculty and staff with a high-quality program that is affordable and convenient.
