UW-Eau Claire Professor David Franks
Honored by Area Educators

 MAILED:  June 24, 2004

EAU CLAIRE - The Eau Claire Association of Educators recently honored Dr. David Franks, professor of special education at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, with a Friend of Education Award at their 2004 Celebration of Service retirement banquet.

Franks said he considered it an honor to be recognized by the ECAE, and he sincerely appreciated the award.

Chris Hambuch-Boyle, an early childhood special education teacher at the Lowes Creek Early Learning Center, said Franks was nominated for the award for consistently providing a connection between Eau Claire classrooms, academia and best practices.

"We could not do what we do without the university involvement that Dave has always fostered for the past 20 years," said Hambuch-Boyle.

Jo Ellen Burke, president of the ECAE, presented the crystal plaque to Franks. She said the award is presented annually to someone in the community who has shown commitment and provided positive support to public schools, students and teachers and who exemplifies excellence in the field of education. Previous recipients include the president of the Eau Claire PTA, a parent coordinator, a County Board chair and others.
