EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music
and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances
the week beginning Monday, Oct. 13. All events are free and open to the public.
Tuesday, Oct. 14:
- Seniors Brian Thorstad, Hastings, Minn., and Nicole
LaLond, Rice Lake, will perform a joint recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital
Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Thorstad will present Handel’s Suite
in D and Arutunian’s Concerto for trumpet. LaLond will feature Jean
Hubeau’s Sonate for trumpet and the Concerto for Trumpet by J. N. Hummel.
Seniors Kristin Yost, Sisseton, S.D., and Phillip Dorn, Clintonville, will
provide accompaniment for Thorstad, and Judy Lies will provide accompaniment
for LaLond
Wednesday, Oct. 15:
- UW-Eau Claire tuba/euphonium studio will present the OcTUBAfest
Middle/High School Workshop Concert at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of
the Haas Fine Arts Center. The concert will feature BASSically BRASS and the
middle and high school euphonium and tuba ensembles. Students from the surrounding
area will attend workshops in the late afternoon and present the concert afterwards.
Sessions on tuba and euphonium playing fundamentals will be presented by Eu-Tu(ba),
a tuba and euphonium ensemble comprised of both faculty members and students,
and BASSically BRASS will then lead students in euphonium/tuba ensemble rehearsals.
Thursday, Oct. 16:
- Senior Beth Anne Scherer, Appleton, will present a senior
bassoon recital at 7:30 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts
Center. Scherer will perform pieces composed by William Hurlstone, Jacques
Ibert, Wolfgang Mozart and Noël-Gallon. Lori Cruciani, associate lecturer
of music and theatre arts, will provide piano accompaniment, with seniors
Rebecca Burmesch, Ripon, and Jennifer Phillips, Appleton, assisting on oboe
and clarinet.
