EAU CLAIRE -University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education will sponsor two programs for social workers, counselors and human service professionals on Monday, August 18.
The programs will deal with the emergence of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and its impact on all human service professionals, including The Privacy Standards and other requirement standards that will have an impact on ethical and client boundary issues.
Dr. Nicholas Smiar, professor of social work and a former chair of the department of social work at UW-Eau Claire, will present "Understanding HIPAA: The Privacy Standards" from 8:30 to 11:45 a.m. and "Ethics and Boundaries: The Impact of HIPAA" from 12:30 to 4:45 p.m. Both programs will be held at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites in Wausau/Mosinee.
Tuition is $69 for the morning program (.3 CEUs) and $89 for the afternoon program (.4 CEUs). A 20 percent discount is available for attending both programs - $125 (includes .7 CEUs and lunch).
