Valley Youth Symphony
To Perform Spring Concert May 10

EAU CLAIRE - The Chippewa Valley Youth Symphony will present a concert at
3 p.m. Saturday, May 10, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center
at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
In its 22nd season, the symphony, conducted by Ivar Lunde Jr., professor of music,
has grown to include more than 65 students from Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, Cadott,
Elk Mound, Eleva, Knapp, Menomonie, Osseo, River Falls and Thorp.
The Youth Symphony will begin the concert with "Light Cavalry Overture,"
composed by Franz von Suppé and arranged by Merle J. Isaac. The symphony
will continue with "Hungarian Dance No. 1," composed by Johannes Brahms
and arranged by Ralph Matesky; and highlights from "Lord of the Rings - The
Fellowship of the Ring," composed by Howard Shore and arranged by Bob Cerulli.
The Youth Symphony also will perform highlights from "West Side Story,"
composed by Leonard Bernstein and arranged by Frederick Müller; "Choreo
Primo" by Ralph Matesky; and selections from the first movement of Concerto
No. 5, Op. 73 by Ludwig van Beethoven. Principal bassoonist Augusta Dibbel is
the featured piano soloist for this piece. The Youth Symphony will conclude the
concert with the finale from Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, arranged by Vernon F.
Leidig.
In addition to Lunde, symphony faculty include senior Sara Piech, Chippewa Falls;
freshman Peter Chang, Eau Claire; junior Nick Munagian, Wisconsin Rapids; and
junior Sacia Jerome, Barron.
UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education and the Chippewa Valley Youth Symphony Association
sponsor the concert, which is free and open to the public.
