Story Idea
An increasing number of UW-Eau Claire students
are fulfilling their service-learning requirements while participating in study
abroad programs. For example, UW-Eau Claire
students studying in Costa Rica
this semester spent two weeks in the rural, somewhat isolated, community of
Guapiles, living with host families and working
to improve one of the community's schools.
The time spent on the project helps students meet their service-learning requirements.
The university requires students to complete 30 hours of service-learning activities
to graduate, the only requirement of its kind in the UW System. Susan
Lochner from the Center for International
Education can tell you more about the service project in Costa Rica and put
you in touch with students who participated in the project. You
can reach Lochner at (715) 836-4411 or
lochnesa@uwec.edu. To learn more about UW-Eau
Claire's service-learning program, contact Don
Mowry, director of service-learning, at
(715) 836-4649 or dmowry@uwec.edu.

A reception to open the 46th
annual Juried Student Art Show will run from
7:30-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, in the Foster
Gallery of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The
show - one of the most important exhibits of the year - features student artwork
as selected by juror Amy Arntson, a nationally known artist. The exhibit will
include some artwork of the late Michael Noll, a UW-Eau Claire student who died
in November. The student art show continues through May 11. For more information,
contact Tom Wagener
at (715) 836-2328 or wagenetk@uwec.edu.
