UW-Eau
Claire Forensics Team
Meets Goal at AFA Tournament
MAILED:
April 11, 2003
EAU CLAIRE - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire forensics team met its goal
when they competed in the American Forensics Association National Tournament on
the University of Mississippi Campus in Oxford, Mississippi.
Because many of UW-Eau Claire's current forensic team members are new to the team,
just two seniors, one junior and three sophomores went to the AFA tournament,
where they took 13th place in the team sweepstakes, meeting their goal of placing
in the top 15.
In addition to the team's accomplishments, senior Scott Boras, Kellogg, Minn.,
won the national championship in dramatic interpretation for 2003.
Individual results for the tournament are as follows:
Boras was also a quarter-finalist, in the top 24 in the nation, in prose interpretation
and program oral interpretation. He also placed 20th in the nation for the individual
sweepstakes.
Senior Ben Schneider, Greendale, was a semi-finalist, in the top 12 in the nation
in impromptu speaking, and a quarter-finalist in after-dinner speaking.
Junior Brandon Buchanan, San Antonio, Texas, placed sixth in the nation in persuasive
speaking.
The team will travel next to the National Forensics Association Tournament at
Ball State University in Muncie, IN.
