EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will welcome Dale Grotenhuis, composer and conductor, to the Haas Fine Arts Center on Friday, March 28.
Grotenhuis, a recently retired professor and director of choral activities at Dordt College in Iowa, will present a lecture titled "Meet the Composer — Dale Grotenhuis" at 10 a.m. in Haas Fine Arts, Room 160, and will conduct two of his choral compositions in a master class at noon in Haas Fine Arts, Room 143.
Over the course of his career, Grotenhuis has composed over 180 choral works and composed five works for symphonic bands, as well as received many awards, including the National Federation of Music's "Outstanding Music Educator" award for the state of Iowa in 1994.
In addition to composing and teaching, Grotenhuis has also conducted clinics, festivals, and all-state choirs in Iowa, Illinois, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Montana and conducted workshops at the Universities of Wisconsin, Oklahoma and Georgia.
Grotenhuis, who holds a master's degree in music from Michigan State University, is currently living in Byron Center, Michigan, and composing music full-time.
These sessions are free and open to the public and are sponsored by the UW-Eau Claire Professional Development Program.
