Lopez to Depart for UCLA,
Anderson Named Interim Director of Admissions
MAILED: Jan. 14, 2003
EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's top admissions officer is heading west to take a lead administrative position with the University of California-Los Angeles football program.
Robert Lopez, UW-Eau Claire executive director of enrollment services and director of admissions, has accepted the position of director of football operations at UCLA. Lopez will reunite with newly hired head football coach Karl Dorrell. Dorrell and Lopez worked together in 1990-91 at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, where Dorrell was the football team's offensive coordinator and Lopez served as recruiting coordinator.
Prior to entering the college admissions field, Lopez spent 14 years coaching football at the high school, junior college and college levels. He played quarterback at Illinois State University from 1972-76, starting his last two seasons.
As UCLA director of football operations Lopez will oversee the administrative side of the football program, including everything from coordinating travel arrangements for the team to organizing the university's football camps for high school athletes.
"I love athletics, and of course football — so to be able to be involved with a prestigious program such as UCLA is a great opportunity," Lopez said.
Lopez will leave UW-Eau Claire January 25. Provost and Vice Chancellor Ronald Satz named Kristina Anderson as interim director of admissions effective January 26. She will serve until a new executive director of enrollment services and director of admissions has been selected.
"Bob Lopez has done a terrific job for UW-Eau Claire, and we wish him well in his new position at UCLA," Satz said. "Kris Anderson has worked closely with Bob and the admissions staff in recruiting the class of 2003-04, and she is well prepared to complete our recruitment. The quality of the incoming freshman class is very strong, with both average ACT scores and high school rank-in-class among the highest in several years."
Anderson, who was appointed as UW-Eau Claire associate director of admissions in fall 2001, has more than 10 years' experience in university admissions. She previously served as assistant director of admissions at UW-Superior and as an admissions counselor at UW-River Falls. She holds a bachelor's degree from Albright College in Reading, Pa., and a master's degree from The College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Va.
