Farewell reception to honor Chancellor Mash

UW-Eau Claire faculty, staff and student leaders are invited to a farewell reception for Chancellor Donald Mash this Thursday, Feb. 24, from 9-11 a.m. in the Council Fire Room, Davies Center. Join the chancellor for coffee and his traditional biscotti, and wish him well as he departs for his new position in Madison as executive senior vice president of the University of Wisconsin System. Chancellor Mash will speak during the event at 10 a.m. (Note: In lieu of any gifts or remembrances, Chancellor Mash has asked that well-wishers consider making a contribution to one of his funds with the UW-Eau Claire Foundation. More information will be available at a later date.)

Feb. 24 to be chancellor's last day on campus Chancellor Donald Mash will leave campus Thursday, Feb. 24, following the morning farewell reception in his honor. Interim Chancellor Vicki Lord Larson will begin her duties on Monday, March 7. During the interval between Chancellor Mash's departure and Dr. Larson's arrival, Provost and Vice Chancellor Ronald Satz will be the administrator in charge at the university, as is typical when the chancellor is away from campus.

Barbara Stevens to retire; interim affirmative action position announced
Barbara Stevens, UW-Eau Claire assistant to the chancellor for affirmative action, has announced she will retire as of July 15, 2005.

Chancellor Donald Mash has delegated the selection of an interim replacement to Provost and Vice Chancellor Ronald Satz. Provost Satz invites applications and/or nominations to fill the position on an interim basis for the next fiscal year. Applications including a letter of interest and vita and/or nominations should be submitted to Provost Satz by Friday, March 18. The interim position will be a 1.0 FTE position. Members of the faculty, instructional academic staff and administrative and professional academic staff may apply. If the appointee is faculty or instructional academic staff, the person will teach one class per semester while serving in the interim position. An administrative or professional academic staff appointee would retain a 25 percent position in that person's home unit. A minimum of a master's degree is required.

This will be an internal interim appointment; the department or unit from which the interim appointee is selected will receive replacement dollars and FTE. Questions should be directed to Provost Satz.

Students, adviser, organizations receive Leadership Recognition Awards
Five students, two student organizations and an organization adviser received awards Feb. 17 during the 17th annual Student Leadership Recognition Awards Ceremony in UW-Eau Claire's Davies Center:

• Receiving $100 Student Organization Awards were Circle K International, an organization whose mission is to provide volunteer service to the campus and local communities and beyond, and Sigma Tau Delta, the English honor society.
• John Lee, Circle K International adviser and interim classroom services manager in the Teaching and Learning Technology Development Center, received the $100 Student Organization Adviser Award.
• Students Amanda Hill (senior, biology and French), Lindsey Nelson (senior, criminal justice), Kyle Buchmann (senior, management) and Lori Scardino (junior, chemistry) received $250 Student Leadership Awards.
• Sophomore Nicole Kalmon (biology and Spanish) received the $250 Andre and Joanne Gibault Blugold Spirit Award.

McIntyre library launches e-newsletter
The McIntyre Library announces the first issue of its e-newsletter for faculty and staff, The McIntyre Advantage. The newsletter will be updated monthly and available on the library's Web site at www.uwec.edu/library/enews/. (Bookmark this URL for quick access to future editions of the newsletter.) Check out the inaugural issue for information about the newly updated IMC Web site, Universal Borrowing among UW System campuses, an online survey of teaching faculty seeking feedback on the library instruction program, new titles in the library's collection and more.

CIE offers new South Korea summer study-abroad program at Ajou University
The first group of UW-Eau Claire students will attend the Ajou University International Summer School in Suwon, South Korea, this summer. The six-week international summer program focuses on Korean/Asian studies and international business. All courses are taught in English. Students also can choose from social sciences or humanities courses, as well as beginning or intermediate Korean language classes. The curriculum includes a Korean culture workshop including visits to historic sites such as a traditional folk village and the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) between North and South Korea. The workshop includes Korean arts such as calligraphy, pottery, music and tae kwon do. UW-Eau Claire has hosted students from Ajou University, which is among Korea's top 10 universities, for several years, Markgraf said. MOSAIC to present 'Vagina Monologues'
Making Our School an Intercultural Community, a UW-Eau Claire Housing and Residence Life diversity task force, will present three benefit performances of Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues" in conjunction with V-Day UW-Eau Claire 2005. The student production will be presented at 7:30 p.m. March 3 and 4 and at 2 p.m. March 5 in Schofield Auditorium. Each year MOSAIC holds events to celebrate V-Day, a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. MOSAIC will donate the proceeds of its production to the Bolton Refuge House and the Women of Iraq. Full story and ticket information.
