UW
Board of Regents recommends faculty/staff pay increases and defers action
on executive compensation
Given
market data and pay plan trends in neighboring states, the UW Board of
Regents voted Friday, Oct. 10, to alert the Office of State Employment
Relations that it will require a 4 percent pay raise in each year of this
biennium to keep faculty and staff pay rates competitive with their peers.
Board members noted that any raises would depend on funding available
in the money that the state has set aside in its compensation reserve.
The approved motion recognized the state’s difficult funding climate
but also states that tuition revenue sources or base budget reallocations
couldn’t be used for this purpose (given recent steep cuts in state
support and tuition caps). Full
story.
University Printing Services to
expand services

University Printing Services, a division of University Centers and Programs,
will expand services to the university community for the 2003-04 academic
year.
University Printing Services is a new unit resulting from the consolidation
of Duplicating Services, Copy Corner and Convenience Copier Services.
It offers offset printing, quality photocopies, color copies, high-speed
duplicating and a wide range of design and bindery services. The unit
also coordinates off-campus printing done through state contracts and
administers the convenience copying program.
Beginning the week after Thanksgiving, University Printing Services
will offer a single point of contact for all aspects of campus printing
and copying at the customer service area formerly known as the Copy
Corner. Full story.
UW System 'Legacy Scholars Program'
discussed at Regents meeting
UW-Eau
Claire is one of three institutions proposing a pilot program that would
offer discounts in out-of-state tuition to children and grandchildren
of alumni, commonly known as legacy students, who live outside Wisconsin
and Minnesota.
The UW System Board of Regents reviewed the “Legacy
Scholars Program” proposal at its Oct. 9-10 meetings in Oshkosh,
but did not act on the proposal during the meeting. It will go back
to the Board of Regents for action at its November meeting.
UW-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse and UW-Oshkosh are jointly
presenting the pilot proposal.
The proposal stipulates that legacy students would
not displace Wisconsin residents. Rather, they would be students accepted
above the university’s target enrollment number. Legacy students
would meet the same university admission requirements as all other students.
