Commencement Set for Aug. 4 — Summer
commencement exercises for 230 candidates for graduation will begin at 9:30 a.m.
Saturday, Aug. 4, in Zorn Arena at UW-Eau Claire.
The ceremony is open to everyone, and tickets are not required. A total of 181 undergraduate students will receive bachelor’s degrees, including 88 from the College of Arts and Sciences and 47 from the College of Business. Within the College of Professional Studies, five students will receive bachelor’s degrees from the School of Education, 40 from the School of Human Sciences and Services, and one from the School of Nursing. A total of 49 graduate students will receive master’s degrees. These graduates include 11 from the College of Arts and Sciences and eight from the College of Business. Within the College of Professional Studies, 24 students will receive master’s degrees from the School of Education and six from the School of Nursing. Chancellor Donald Mash will preside over the ceremony and confer the degrees. Associate Vice Chancellor Steven Tallant will present the candidates. University Senate Chair Susan Harrison will be commencement marshal. Jan K. Ver Hagen of St. Louis will deliver the "Charge to the Class." He and his wife, Kathryn, a 1960 UW-Eau Claire graduate, will be honored at commencement as the first recipients of the Alumni Association’s Lifetime Excellence Award. Mark Kanner, a candidate for a bachelor’s degree in communication from Lake Geneva, will present "Reflections." Stephen Kurth, who is retiring as associate dean of the School of Education in August, will be honored at commencement. Several alumni award recipients also will be honored during the ceremony. A reception for graduates and guests will follow the ceremony on the lawn near the campus mall clock tower (rain site: Spruce-Tamarack Room, Davies Center).
Final Issue — This is the final issue of the Summer Bulletin. The first issue of the University Bulletin will be distributed Aug. 20 to coincide with the official opening of the 2001-02 academic year.
