Summer Session Programs presents The Hugh Durning Acoustic Trio
The Hugh Durning Acoustic Trio will present a free outdoor concert Monday, June 25, at UW-Eau Claire. The Summer Session Programs show will begin at 7 p.m. on the Central Campus Mall (rain: Schofield Auditorium). Refreshments will be sold. Audience members are invited to bring blankets or folding chairs for lawn seating. Led by vocalist and guitarist Hugh Durning, this new ensemble mixes acoustic rock with elements of bluegrass, classical and world music. The trio performs original music with a positive, spiritual message, and also covers songs by artists ranging from The Beatles to the Dave Matthews Band. A veteran of the Madison-based group Pat the Blowfish, Hugh Durning embarked on a solo career that yielded four albums, including "Transport," recorded last year while he lived in New York City. For the past three years Durning has performed off and on with cellist Andrew Block, a regular member of the La Crosse Symphony and the Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra and a founding member of the Clearwater Quartet. Improvisation is the strong suit of the third member of the trio, violinist and singer Julia McConahay, a May graduate of UW-Eau Claire. Also on campus during the week of June 25 are these free programs:
Funded by UW-Eau Claire student segregated fees, Summer Session Programs continue through Aug. 2. A complete schedule is available from the Activities and Programs Office, Davies Center 133, 836-4833.
