Summer Session Programs to feature classical guitarists
Classical guitarists Michael and Tony Hauser will present a free outdoor concert Monday, June 18, at UW-Eau Claire. The Summer Session Programs show will begin at 7 p.m. on the Central Campus Mall (rain: Schofield Auditorium). Refreshments will be sold. Audience members are invited to bring blankets or folding chairs for lawn seating. Michael and Tony Hauser are the premier guitar duo presenting both classical and authentic, true-to-form flamenco music. One of a handful of flamenco guitar masters, Michael Hauser divides his time between Madrid and the Twin Cities, where he serves on the music faculty of Macalester College. Strongly rooted in the classical tradition, Tony Hauser explores Spanish flamenco, Latin American, ethnic and new music. In addition to performing at orchestra halls in Minneapolis and Chicago and on scores of college campuses, the duo has been heard often on National Public Radio’s "A Prairie Home Companion." Also on campus during the week of June 18 are these free events: • Concerts by UW-Eau Claire and area jazz musicians will be presented from noon to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday on the Central Campus Mall (rain: The Cabin, Davies Center). A variety of grilled lunch items will be sold. • "The Secret Garden" (1949) will screen Tuesday
and Thursday at noon and 7 p.m. in Davies Theatre. Frances Hodgson Burnett’s
atmospheric Victorian fable stars Margaret O’Brien as a young orphan sent to
live with her widowed uncle (Herbert Marshall) at his dark and foreboding
English estate. Her curiosity and stubborn temperament lead the girl to discover
an abandoned garden, the key to her uncle’s embittered life. Dean Stockwell,
Gladys Cooper and Elsa Lanchester co-star in the 92-minute black-and-white film
classic.
