Faculty and staff invited to upcoming CETL/ORSP programs
The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning on Aug. 21 will sponsor a presentation titled "Promoting Integrated and Transformative Assessment: A Deeper Focus on Student Learning" by Catherine Wehlburg, executive director of the Office of Assessment and Quality Enhancement at Texas Christian University. Wehlburg will present separate morning and afternoon sessions in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.

On Aug. 25 CETL and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs will co-sponsor a Showcase of Excellence from 2-4 p.m. in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.

Classified Staff Scholarship deadline is Aug. 1

Each fall and spring semester, a $250 scholarship is awarded to a UW-Eau Claire classified staff member who is employed at least half time at the university and enrolled as a student at an accredited higher education institution.

Those qualified for the fall 2008 scholarship are encouraged to apply by 4:30 p.m. Aug. 1 by submitting (1) a brief summary of the employee/student's employment history and education background; (2) a brief statement describing the fall coursework and how it will benefit the employee/student; and (3) two letters of recommendation. Submit applications to Barb Bowers, Human Resources.

The UW-Eau Claire Foundation's Classified Staff Grant Fund, which supports the scholarship, was created by Susie Warden, who retired in March after 29 years as a UW-Eau Claire classified employee, and Linda Haag, who retired in 2004 after working as a UW-Eau Claire classified staff member for almost 37 years. Both women completed bachelor's degrees at UW-Eau Claire while working as full-time members of the university's classified staff. They wanted to make certain other classified staff members had a similar opportunity, so they created the Classified Staff Grant Fund.

Katherine Schneider (emerita) presented "From Our Memoirs to Your Practice: Insights from Women Who Are Blind" at the Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired international conference July 24 in Chicago.

McIntyre Library
Janice Bogstad presented a paper titled "A Colonialist/Post-Colonial Reading of Neal Stephenson's 'Diamond Age'" at the annual Science Fiction Research Association Conference July 9-12 in Lawrence, Kan. At the conference she also served on a panel about reviewing science fiction and fantasy.
