Mike Dorsher had his story "Birthday/wake for church" published in the July 8 issue of The Forum, North Dakota’s largest newspaper. The story was about the closing of Zion Lutheran Church in tiny Gardena, N.D., on the church’s 100th birthday.
Foreign Languages
Patrick Day had his review of two books: "African Francophone Cinema" by Samba Diop, and "Africa Shoots Back: Alternative Perspectives in Sub-Saharan African Film" by Melissa Thackway, published in the spring 2006 issue of African Studies Quarterly, Vol. 8, No. 3, pages 58-60.

Bill Hoepner's photograph appears on the cover of the June/July 2006 issue of Family Times, a newspaper for Chippewa Valley parents. 
Music and Theatre Arts
Jerry Young rehearsed and conducted the International High School All-Star Euphonium and Tuba Ensemble at the International Tuba/Euphonium Conference at the University of Denver in late June. At the conference Young also presented a session titled “Getting Started in Jazz,” which was based on his spring 2006 sabbatical research. Barbara Young was the accompanist for the ITEC International Young Solo Artist Competitions for euphonium and tuba.

Condolences to Andrea Gapko, Academic Skills Center, and Laurie Gapko (emeritus), University Centers and Programs, whose son, UW-Eau Claire student Josef Gapko, died July 10 in Eau Claire. Full obituary.
