Stephen Drucker presented a talk titled "The S1(n,π*) State of 2-Cyclohexen-1-one: Cavity Ringdown Absorption Spectrum and DFT Calculations" at the 61st International Symposium on Molecular Spectroscopy June 19 at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. The abstract of the talk can be viewed online. Drucker's research students (now UW-Eau Claire graduates) Emily Gilles, Logan Ausman and Elizabeth Brown co-authored the talk along with S. Lee, J. Choo (Hanyang University, Korea), M. Rishard and J. Laane (Texas A&M University). Go to top of page

Communication and Journalism
David Gordon (emeritus) coordinated and participated in a panel discussion at the state Associated Press editors meeting in May in Wausau. The topic was "Online Ethics: What are the Boundaries?" and dealt with the ethical dimensions of such issues as the temptation to break a story without checking or copy editing it thoroughly, streaming video on newspaper Web sites (including the role that background music can play), and using online photo galleries as a vehicle to sell copies to the public. The panel and audience also discussed ethics concerns in relation to blogs (by "citizen journalists" and newspaper staffers) on newspaper Web sites. Go to top of page

Continuing Education
Julie Aminpour and Barbara Enright earned their certified program planner designation by attending the Learning Resources Network's Program Planning Institute June 12-16 in Portland, Ore., and passing the final exam. The exam tested knowledge and skill competencies in learning and teaching, finances and budgeting, brochures, marketing, promotion, program development, program analysis, pricing and program management. Patrick Day had his chapter titled "The SAT French Test" published in McGraw-Hill's 2006 book "15 Practice SAT Subject Tests." Nuria Hoff and Paul Hoff (Foreign Languages/Honors Program) had their chapter, "The SAT Spanish Test," published in the same book. Go to top of page
