Jim Phillips and his research students, Audrey Eigner and Ellie Smith, gave research presentations at the Great Lakes Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society May 31-June 2 in Milwaukee. Following are the presentation authors and titles, with asterisks denoting presenters: Smith* and Phillips, poster presentation: “Gas Phase Structural Properties of Nitrile Donor-Borane Complexes and N2-BH3”; Eigner* and Phillips, oral presentation: “Structural Properties of CH3CN–SO2 in the Gas Phase, Solid State, and Inert Condensed Phase Media”; and *Phillips and Christopher Cramer (University of Minnesota), oral presentation: "Modeling the Effects of Inert Gas Matrices on the Structural Properties of CH3CN–BF3.” 
Continuing Education
George Kroeninger has accepted an invitation to serve as a member of the Community Advisory Committee for the Master of Public Health Program at the
UW School of Medicine and Public Health. Committee members are drawn from representatives of health departments, healthcare organizations, not-for-profit agencies and others affiliated with public health throughout Wisconsin. The advisory committee provides input regarding the development of field placement opportunities, post-graduation employment, program accreditation and recruitment of new students. The committee also provides advice on the coordination of efforts between the MPH program and the Wisconsin public health community. 
Learning and Technology Services
Rick Mickelson won first place in the Viewbook category in the 2006 University Photographers' Association of America print and publications competition. The 2005-06 UW-Eau Claire Viewbook was the award-winning publication. See award announcement. 
Social Work
Leonard Gibbs (emeritus) and Eileen Gambrill (University of California at Berkeley) presented a two-day workshop on evidence-based practice May 22 and 23 at the Kent School of Social Work, University of Louisville, in Louisville, Ky.
Special Education
Stephen Dempsey has been appointed to the Higher Learning Commission's Accreditation Review Council. As a member of the Accreditation Review Council he will be part of the Commission's distributed decision-making processes and will serve on Readers Panels and on Review Committees.

Condolences to Barbara Enright, Continuing Education, whose son, Patrick Enright, died June 20 in Winter Park, Colo. Full obituary.
Condolences to DeAnne Swenson, News Bureau, and her husband, Marlin Swenson. Marlin's father, Kenneth Swenson, died June 19 in Grantsburg.
