Music on the Mall. Featuring ethnic flutist Peter Phippen. A professional musician for more than 25 years, Phippen spent his early career days as a bass guitarist and recording artist. But in 1987 his first flute — a 25-cent bamboo whistle — found its way into his hands, and wooden flutes became his solo instrument of choice. Summer Cinema. “The Lost Boys.” (U.S. 1987, directed by Joel Schumacher, 97 min., rated R.) This film is one of the better vampire films about two new-in-town brothers who discover a local gang of motorcycle youths are more undead than alive. Davies Theatre, 7 p.m. Through July 14.

Summer Cinema. “The Ring.” (U.S. 2002, directed by Gore Verbinski, 115 min., rated PG-13.) It sounded like just another urban legend — a videotape filled with nightmarish images, leading to a phone call foretelling the viewer’s death in exactly seven days. As a newspaper reporter, Rachel Keller was naturally skeptical of the story, until four teenagers all met with mysterious deaths exactly one week after watching just such a tape.
