Following are examples of UW-Eau Claire people and programs that recently appeared in the media. Selika Ducksworth-Lawton, history, was quoted in a June 23 DuluthNewsTribune.com article about the documentary film "Henry Aaron's Summer Up North," in which she appears offering social and cultural perspective. Andrew Soll, vice chancellor for business and student services, was interviewed on WEAU-TV June 22 for a story about the potential impact on UW-Eau Claire of the 2005-07 version of the state budget passed earlier that day by the Wisconsin State Assembly. UW-Eau Claire student Nora Kelly, heath care administration, was quoted in the June 22 Leader-Telegram article "Money where the mouth is: An oral screening program aims to improve the health of long-term care residents by landing a grant for their dental needs." UW-Eau Claire's partnership with DiscoverNet to expand a free downtown Eau Claire wireless Internet network was mentioned in a June 22 story on WQOW-TV. Jeanne Skoug, Career Services, is named in the June 21 BusinessNorth.com news release "'Wisconsin jobs for Wisconsin grads': Investing in Wisconsin's future" as UW-Eau Claire's representative in a consortium of UW System career services offices that has launched a pilot project involving a statewide jobs database for Wisconsin employers. Interim Chancellor Vicki Lord Larson was interviewed on WQOW-TV June 20 for a story about the $300,000 U.S. Department of Education grant awarded to UW-Eau Claire to launch a program aimed at reducing rates of drinking among first-year students. Kimberly Barrett and Jodi Thesing-Ritter, Student Development and Diversity, were quoted in the June 20 Leader-Telegram article "Deterring drinking: Grant targets freshmen students," also about the program to be launched with the support of UW-Eau Claire's recent $300,000 federal grant. A guest column by Kimberly Barrett, Student Development and Diversity, titled "UW boosts more than the economy" appeared in the June 20 Leader-Telegram. UW-Eau Claire student Libby Thurston was interviewed on WQOW-TV June 14 for a story about Summer Institute. |
