Thesing-Ritter and Dixon appointed to Student Development and Diversity positions Two UW-Eau Claire staff members will begin their new senior administrative positions in the Office of Student Development and Diversity in July.
Jodi Thesing-Ritter has been named the new associate dean of student development. She will replace Robert Shaw, who retired in May. Thesing-Ritter came to UW-Eau Claire 10 years ago as a residence hall director and currently is assistant director of Housing and Residence Life, a position she has held since 2001. She will be responsible for a wide range of student services and will work to secure external funding to support the implementation of innovative programs to promote student success and development. She also will coordinate the administration of Student Disciplinary Procedures. Jesse Dixon has been appointed director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs. He has been serving as interim director of the office. Dixon will oversee activities that provide support for African American, American Indian, Asian American and Hispanic/Latino students, as well as other minority or economically disadvantaged students who have been under-represented in higher education. He also will help recruit students and coordinate the university's Gear Up Program. Full story. Why doesn't the tipi fill with smoke when there's a fire inside? How did the Native Americans make clothes, tools, ropes, cooking utensils and jewelry without malls or Home Depot? These are just a few of the many lessons Andy Anton, Gear Up Program, taught last week around his tipi, which he put up on the lawn near Davies Center. Twenty-seven sixth- through 12th-graders from Milwaukee participated in the Office of Multicultural Affairs Math and Science Program, where the tipi and the survival practices of Native Americans were used to understand math and science in different ways.
