UWEC professor Mattson
serves on
Accounting Examining Board
Lucretia L. Mattson, CPA, DBA, an associate professor in the Department of
Accounting at UW-Eau Claire, has been appointed as a professional accounting
member to the Wisconsin Accounting Examining Board by Gov. Jim Doyle. The State
Senate confirmed the appointment on
Mattson is well-known nationally
and in
Mattson has received numerous
awards from UW-Eau Claire and the accounting profession. In 2000, she was
honored with both the UW-Eau Claire Excellence in Teaching Award and the UW-Eau
Claire Excellence in Service Award. It was the first time in the history of the
university that an individual won both awards in one year. The recipient of the
teaching award is chosen by the three prior years’ graduating classes. The service award is presented by the faculty
committee. She also received the UW-Eau
Claire Peat Marwick Professor of the Year Award in both 1997 and 1989.

In addition, Mattson received the
Educator of the Year Award from the American Woman’s Society of CPAs in 2001.
An active member of the WICPA since 1984, Mattson received the WICPA
Achievement Award in 1998 for her role in the statewide component of the CPA
Vision Project, a national grassroots effort designed to give CPAs input into
forging the future of their own profession. Mattson was a member of the AICPA
Vision Task Force. She also was awarded the WICPA Spirit Award in 1995 and the
WICPA Teacher of the Year Award in 1993.
Additionally, Mattson has served as chairperson of the WICPA Nominations Committee, Leadership Committee, and Continuing Professional Education Committee, and has been a member of the CPE Council, Strategic Planning Task Force and CPE Task Force.
Besides teaching at UWEC, Mattson
works for Bernicke & Associates, Ltd. in
The Accounting Examining Board
licenses and regulates certified public accountants, public accountants and
firms. The Board is composed of professional and public members who are
appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate. The Board is overseen by
the Department of Regulation and Licensing is an umbrella agency providing
administrative services to the various professional boards.
