Ron Satz will give a lecture/slide presentation titled "Chippewa Treaty Rights in Historical Perspective" for the 2003 Summer Guest Lecture Series, "Around the Archipelago," at the U.S. Department of Interior's Apostle Islands National Lakeshore Visitor Center July 7 in Bayfield.

Chemistry
Stephen Drucker presented a talk titled "The Lowest ³(n,p*) State of 2-Cyclopenten-1-one: Cavity Ringdown Absorption Spectrum and Ring-Bending Potential Energy Function" at the 58th International Symposium on Molecular Spectroscopy June 17 at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. The abstract of the talk can be viewed online. Drucker's research student, Nathan Pillsbury, presented a poster on the same topic at the 35th Great Lakes Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society June 1 at Loyola University in Chicago, Ill.

Communication and Journalism
Jan Larson and Andris Straumanis led sessions during a seminar titled "Teaching American History: Journalism and the Media" June 11 at UW-Marinette. Larson discussed the history of women in the media, and Straumanis discussed the history of the immigrant and ethnic press. The seminar introduced special topics in American history to elementary and high school teachers from Wisconsin and Michigan.

Sociology
Tarique Niazi was quoted in an article titled "The leader of Pakistan provokes criticism" in the Editorial Briefing section of the June 23 issue of The Guardian, London. His quote was related to the summit meeting between Pakistani leader Gen. Pervez Musharraf and U.S. President George W. Bush June 24 at Camp David. The quote was taken from Niazi’s op-ed piece in the June 15-21 issue of the U.S.-based weekly newspaper, The South Asia Tribune.
