Alumni and Friends React To Tragedy
September 24, 2001

Thank you so much for the message of support. Thankfully, my family is all OK. We are so grateful that while my husband Jeff is assigned to the Pentagon, his office is actually in Rosslyn where he was safe. And, while I travel by the Pentagon everyday on my way to work in Washington DC, I was five miles away at Sibley Hospital where we were told to not leave the building and wait for casualties. Unfortunately, no casualties came--most of the individuals affected at the Pentagon did not survive the horrible tragedy. When we returned home, a friend who had been in the Pentagon at the time of the attack, was sitting on our front porch looking quite shell-shocked--he had left the building in a hurry without the keys to his house and walked the five miles from the Pentagon (which most individuals did since there was no transportation from the area) to here where we keep an extra key to his house. We were so grateful to see him and offer that small amount of help.

While our lives have been disrupted because of changes in traffic patterns, etc., the disruption is miniscule compared to those directly affected by this event. We thank God everyday for that.

Again, thank you for your concern.
